Pediatric Pelvic Pain
Out of millions of children that suffer from pelvic floor dysfunction, very few get help. Pelvic floor symptoms can cause a great deal of distress among children and interfere with their physical, mental and social health. Usually all kids are toilet trained by the age 4 after which it is considered a distressing problem for the child and family. A range of pelvic health dysfunctions in children can be due to weak or tight pelvic floor dysfunctions or muscle incoordination or poor day time habits. Physical Therapy has been shown to be a noninvasive, non-medicated effective form of treatment and there are been many successful case studies and research about the same.
At Pelvic Elements, during the initial evaluation we take a full medical history from the child and parent/guardian, understand their habits and behavior and beliefs. Evaluation and treatment is non invasive and clothes on. The parent or guardian is always in the room during the treatment. Treatment consists of parent education which is always the key, variety of manual therapy techniques, posture training, biofeedback, breathing techniques, bladder or bowel training, exercises.
If your child suffers from any of these symptoms, he or she is not alone:
-
Constipation
-
Diarrhea
-
Abdominal pain or bloating
-
Urinary incontinence which is loss of urine
-
Urinary urgency which is constant/strong need to urinate
-
Urinary frequency -urinating over 8 times in a 24 hour period
-
Urinary retention - unable to empty bladder fully
-
Fecal urgency, frequency and/or retention
-
